I was thinking to myself how it'd be nice if people could create polls as easily as they do new threads..so, I whipped this hack up to achieve just that and draw more attention to the feature... It'll add a "New Poll" graphic next to your "New Thread" graphic which links to a modified form with the poll option already selected and the 'Number of choices' field under the Subject for easy, obvious access...the user can then click 'Continue' to fill in the rest of the Poll information. This does not use Wordlets, but I guess it could. This is my first hack..and really nothing major..but give it a try. ... you do realize that 6.2's polling feature is just around the corner, right?

Will 6.2 polls be the same style as this hack makes them to be?

Looks a good idea - but just one thought the Polls Icon should really be in the same style as the default icons - as your icon will not fit in with most peoples styles.

Yeah, I didn't think about that, but I wasn't even going to include an icon @ first..then I figured 'Oh what the hell, I'll throw an example one in there'. . shrug, there is no default poll icon since polling isn't a native UBB function (yet), so I just hit up the good ol' database and grabbed somethin. . But if anyone would like to contribute a default-matching new poll graphic, I'll include it. My graphic skills are limited to cropping. [ 01-23-2002 07:32 PM: Message edited by: Soul Survivor ]

Nice hack. I found the change, if you don't want to look for it. Ubb_lib_posting.cgi Find: $vars_config (NonCGIURL}/newpoll.gif Replace with: $vars_config {NonCGIURL}/newpoll.gif Thanks for the speedy reply!

Mmkay, I'm releasing v1.1 of this bad boy.. . Improvements -- The hack now actually checks to make sure polling is turned on in the specific forum before displaying the images. This is true for both the forum and thread pages. And, much thanks goes to Canvey, who not only hooked up a default-matching image for the hack, but also threw together a MultiHack (v2) file for it. When i woke up this morning....no i must start different. When i want to post a topic this morning, i came on the forum-intro at once without see the topic. There was no topic. The who's online with the note that i was online was gone also. Other members noticed the same problem. And...the preview did not work. Al we could do was reply, but that's only half of a forum's function so i had to act.
I make backups, so i can step by step replace files and i came to the conclusion that it has something to do with this hack. Could it be that this modification begins to make files with a sort of Harry Potter behavior?

I guess anything's possible but I don't know how this hack would effect all that stuff.. But I guess my suggestion would be to try again, but do it differently. Upload all the new files in my ZIP to their right places, then only do the ULTIMATEBB.CGI part in the install.txt. Then try going to http://yourboard/yourcgipath/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=newpoll and see if that draws the form properly. You can contact me on AIM under the name ippiippi if you need to.

I also got some problems. I've looked it over several times but the box for the number of poll options doesn't show up on the new poll page.

This hack requires Integrated Polls..
If you've got it installed, make sure you have polls turned on for that specific forum.

Hi, I have rehacked ubb_forum.cgi several times and everytime I clear cache and bring up the board, when I go into a forum where polls are activated I get this error msg. ------------------------------------------- An error has occured: /home/bud/cgi-bin/ubb_forum.cgi: syntax error at /home/bud/cgi-bin/ubb_forum.cgi line 205, near " " syntax error at /home/bud/cgi-bin/ubb_forum.cgi line 250, near "$Sections = int($count / $vars_display" ---------------------------------------------- Can anyone spot the error? I'm just cutting and pasting but cannot see anything. Thanks for any input Rainner

I know cause I tend to read quite carefully before I start hacking. But still no poll option
I've removed it now but perhaps I'll have another go at it later
